Ficomontanino – Fabulous Discounts (May 2025)
To our pleasant surprise, we chanced that the wines of Ficomontanino have been enthusiastically written up by Eric Guido, the Italian wine specialist at Vinous.
The Ficomontanino (“little fig mountain”) estate lies in Chiusi, in Siena, a part of southern Tuscany that borders Lazio and Umbria. This picturesque farm has been under the charge of Maria Sole Giannelli who took over from her father (and grandfather) in 2014 and reformed it according to her ideals: an agricultural system where organic/biodynamic vines live in the natural flora together with other crops and animals free from chemicals, then naturally handled in the cellar.
There’s no better way to fully experience Ficomontanino than through the estate’s flagship Granomelo vintage 2019. The wine is now sufficiently rested and clearly arriving at a good place. It’s an elegant, minerally Sangiovese with a honest-to-goodness expressiveness from its pristine organic grapes. Lovely, with an old-soul classicism, all in a good way.
Quality and personality are gratifyingly consistent at Ficomontanino, and we’re equally excited by Granomelo’s sangiovese siblings, the vivacious, hearty Bulgarelli rosso, and the sumptuous Noble Kara rosato, a rosé like no other.
To celebrate the special recognition, we’re pleased to present these moreish, highly original wines with sweet discounts thru the month of May, so you could take in all their deliciousness at prices you don’t have to think twice about.
